Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Stensen's duct carcinomas are exceptionally rare salivary gland neoplasms.
  • Fewer than 30 cases reported globally since 1927, highlighting their rarity.

Observation:

  • A painless left cheek tumor was diagnosed in an 83-year-old male patient.
  • The tumor was identified as an adenoid cystic carcinoma, a subtype rarely seen in Stensen's duct.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection was performed using an extended parotidectomy incision.
  • The superficial lobectomy successfully removed the tumor without causing facial nerve damage.

Implications:

  • This case contributes to the limited literature on Stensen's duct adenoid cystic carcinomas.
  • Successful surgical management without complications demonstrates a viable treatment approach.
