This study investigated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene variations in pre-eclampsia. While most polymorphisms showed no link, the 936C/T variant was associated with severe pre-eclampsia, suggesting a role in disease modification.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between three functional VEGF gene polymorphisms and pre-eclampsia.
  • To determine if VEGF gene variations contribute to pre-eclampsia susceptibility or severity.

Main Methods:

  • Genotyping of 42 pre-eclamptic and 73 healthy women for VEGF gene polymorphisms (-2578C/A, -634G/C, 936C/T).
  • Analysis of genotypic and allelic frequencies to identify associations with pre-eclampsia.

Main Results:

  • No significant association was found between the studied VEGF polymorphisms and pre-eclampsia overall.
