Diagnostic and interventional radiology (Ankara, Turkey)·2023

Area of Science:

  • Cardiovascular Surgery
  • Medical Imaging
  • Interventional Cardiology

Background:

  • Intravascular foreign bodies can arise from interventional procedures or cardiac valve surgery.
  • Prosthetic heart valve leaflets are an uncommon source of intravascular foreign bodies.

Observation:

  • A case of a prosthetic heart valve leaflet embolizing to the aortic bifurcation is presented.
  • Computed tomography and ultrasonography were utilized for imaging.

Findings:

  • The study highlights the successful diagnosis of prosthetic heart valve leaflet embolization.
  • Radiographic imaging confirmed the leaflet's location at the aortic bifurcation.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of advanced imaging techniques in identifying rare intravascular complications.
