Summary

A rare hemangiopericytoma in the nasal cavity caused recurrent nosebleeds in a 63-year-old. Surgical removal was successful, with no recurrence after one year.

Background:

  • Hemangiopericytomas are uncommon perivascular tumors.
  • The head and neck, particularly the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, are frequent sites for these tumors.

Observation:

  • A 63-year-old patient presented with recurrent epistaxis.
  • Imaging revealed a polypoid mass in the ethmoid, sphenoid, and frontal sinuses.
  • The patient had a history of radiotherapy for a pituitary adenoma.

Findings:

  • Histological examination of a nasal biopsy confirmed hemangiopericytoma.
  • Preoperative embolization was performed.
  • Complete tumor excision was achieved via a combined endonasal and external approach.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the successful management of a rare sinonasal tumor.
  • A multidisciplinary surgical approach ensured complete resection.
  • Long-term follow-up confirmed no tumor recurrence.
