Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Trauma Surgery
  • Diagnostic Imaging

Background:

  • Traumatic vertebral artery pseudoaneurysms are rare vascular injuries.
  • Penetrating neck trauma can lead to delayed vascular complications.

Observation:

  • A 16-year-old Nigerian male presented with a neck mass after a stab wound.
  • Doppler ultrasonography was crucial in diagnosing the vertebral artery pseudoaneurysm.

Findings:

  • Surgical treatment involved proximal subclavian artery control and lesion excision.
  • Complete successful excision of the pseudoaneurysm was achieved.

Implications:

  • Vertebral artery pseudoaneurysms should be considered in posterior neck trauma.
