  • The underlying mechanisms linking PD motor symptoms and rhythmic impairments remain unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate hand tapping rhythm and variability in Parkinson's disease patients.
  • To compare rhythmic movement capabilities across different Parkinson's disease subtypes.

Main Methods:

  • Fifty-one PD patients and 36 controls performed self-paced and externally paced tapping tasks.
  • Patients were subclassified into tremor-predominant (TP), freezing-predominant (FP), and akinetic-rigid (AR) groups.
  • Rhythmicity and tap-to-tap variation were analyzed during comfortable, fastest, and metronome-guided tapping.
