Summary

Inter-fetal size variation in high-order multiple gestations begins in the first trimester, earlier than previously thought. This variability increases with gestational age and differs between pregnancies.

Background:

Sonographic dating and growth assessments for multifetal pregnancies typically mirror singleton standards until the second trimester.
Limited data exist on early size variability in high-order multiple gestations.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate interfetal size variability in high-order multiple gestations during the first trimester.
To determine if size variability differs between pregnancies of the same gestational age and within individual pregnancies.

Main Methods:

Analysis of sonographic measurements from 57 patients undergoing first-trimester multifetal pregnancy reduction.
Gestational ages (GAs) were precisely determined due to assisted reproductive technology (ART).

Significant interfetal size variation was observed within individual pregnancies.
Greater standard deviation in size measurements noted at 12 and 13 weeks of GA.
Variability in size was evident among different pregnancies at the same GA.
