Abstract:
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder frequently coexists with a variety of psychiatric and developmental disorders of child psychiatric inpatients. The author highlights characteristics of these patients and examines nursing contributions to treatment. She emphasizes issues of medication administration and monitoring, as well as the development and implementation of interventions to decrease disruptive behavior, enhance self-control, and develop social skills. Effective management techniques are supported by research evidence and illustrated by case examples.
