Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Neuropathology
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Enterogenous cysts are rare congenital anomalies typically found in the spinal canal.
  • Intracranial enterogenous cysts are exceptionally uncommon, posing diagnostic and surgical challenges.

Observation:

  • A 45-year-old woman presented with symptoms of paroxysmal headache and diplopia.
  • Imaging studies (CT and MRI) identified a cystic mass ventral to the brainstem, extending from the midbrain to the medulla.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent subtotal resection of the clival mass via a sub-temporal approach.
  • Pathological examination confirmed the lesion as a typical enterogenous cyst.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known locations for enterogenous cysts, emphasizing their rare intracranial occurrence.
