Hepatocyte nuclear factor-1beta (HNF-1beta) gene mutations cause Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young type 5 (MODY5), a condition with varied symptoms. Genetic analysis is recommended for patients with diabetes and kidney issues, even without a family history.
