Summary

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy offers comparable functional and oncological outcomes to open surgery. This minimally invasive approach provides similar continence, potency, and cancer control rates, with added benefits of less invasive procedures.

  • To compare LRP results with open radical prostatectomy (ORP).
  • To present findings from literature review and the first 500 Heilbronn technique cases.

  • Extensive MEDLINE search (1999-2003) focusing on the last three years.
  • Analysis of published data and own results from 500 LRP patients.
  • Comparison of continence, potency, positive margins, PSA failure, and clinical progression between LRP and ORP.
