Area of Science:

  • Otolaryngology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) has re-emerged globally as a significant public health issue.
  • Nasal tuberculosis, though uncommon, can be primary or secondary to other forms of TB or lupus.
  • It is essential to consider nasal TB in the differential diagnosis of nasal granulomas.

Observation:

  • A case of primary nasal tuberculosis in an adult male is presented.
  • The patient exhibited a polypoid lesion in one nasal cavity.
  • Diagnosis was confirmed via histopathology.

Findings:

  • Successful treatment with antituberculous drugs was achieved.
  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of nasal tuberculosis.

Implications:

  • Otolaryngologists should be aware of nasal tuberculosis as a potential cause of unusual head and neck lesions.
  • Increased global TB incidence necessitates vigilance for extrapulmonary manifestations.
  • Prompt diagnosis and treatment are vital for favorable patient outcomes.
