Abstract:
Strontium ranelate is the first treatment able to stimulate bone formation and to inhibit bone resorption inducing a positive bone balance. In intact female rats, strontium ranelate increased bone mass and strength dose-dependently at the level of the vertebral body and midshaft femur. An increment of plastic energy was also observed and suggests that bone treated by strontium ranelate is able to cumulate more damages before fracture than normal bone.
