Blunt trauma is a common cause, potentially leading to cauliflower ear if untreated.

To evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment options for acute auricular hematoma.

Searched Cochrane CENTRAL, MEDLINE, and EMBASE databases up to April 2003.
Included randomized controlled trials, case-controlled trials, and cohort studies.
Assessed 48 retrieved references against inclusion criteria.
