Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Mesenteric cysts are uncommon intra-abdominal masses with variable presentations.
  • Diagnosis can be challenging due to their rarity and often asymptomatic nature.

Observation:

  • A rare case of a mesenteric cyst causing large bowel obstruction is presented.
  • The patient experienced symptoms indicative of intestinal obstruction.

Findings:

  • Mesenteric cysts, though infrequent, can present with significant complications.
  • Intestinal obstruction is an underreported but serious complication associated with mesenteric cysts.

Implications:

  • Increased awareness of mesenteric cysts is crucial for timely diagnosis and management.
  • This case underscores the importance of considering mesenteric cysts in the differential diagnosis of intestinal obstruction.
