Treatment trends in anal fissures

Background:
Conservative treatment of anal fisures are reserved for acute forms. Many different treatments are available for chronic anal fissures, which offer different responses and risks for complications.
Materials And Methods:
This study describes various surgical and non-surgical treatment modalities offered for chronic anal fissure with their advantages and complications.
Conclusion:
Considering the various pros and cons, we are of the opinion that treatment of chronic anal fissure must be individualized, depending on the clinical condition of patients. Explaining all the available options to the patient, the clinician should suggest a good and safe choice to achieve the optimum results for the particular patient. (Tab. 2, Ref. 26.)
