Background:

  • Pseudallescheria boydii is an emerging fungal pathogen that can cause opportunistic infections.

Observation:

  • A 43-year-old immunocompetent male presented with symptoms of meningitis, including fever, headache, eye pain, and vomiting.
  • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis revealed the presence of Pseudallescheria boydii.
  • Progressive hydrocephalus developed during the course of the illness.

Findings:

  • The patient's meningitis was caused by the unusual fungus Pseudallescheria boydii.
  • The infection was unresponsive to standard antifungal therapy, including amphotericin B and 5-fluocytosine.
