Abstract:
We present a case of intracranial meningeal carcinomatosis that was visualized more clearly on a delayed contrast-enhanced fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI than on other regular post-contrast MRI.
Insights
Delayed contrast-enhanced MRI offers superior visualization of intracranial meningeal carcinomatosis. This advanced MRI technique improves detection compared to standard post-contrast imaging for leptomeningeal disease.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Radiology
- Oncology
Background:
- Intracranial meningeal carcinomatosis involves cancer spread to the meninges.
- Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment planning.
Observation:
- A specific case of meningeal carcinomatosis was examined.
- Standard post-contrast MRI sequences were compared with delayed contrast-enhanced FLARE MRI.
Findings:
- Delayed contrast-enhanced FLARE MRI provided clearer visualization of the meningeal carcinomatosis.
- This technique demonstrated superior sensitivity in detecting leptomeningeal disease compared to conventional MRI.
Implications:
- Delayed contrast-enhanced FLARE MRI may be a valuable tool for diagnosing and monitoring meningeal carcinomatosis.
- This imaging approach could enhance the detection of leptomeningeal metastases.
