Summary

Alpha-receptors mediate digital vasoconstriction during obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) events. Phentolamine infusion dose-dependently reduced this alpha-receptor mediated constriction.

  • Eight male patients with severe OSA underwent brachial artery infusion of phentolamine.

Conclusions:

  • OSA-related digital pulse amplitude changes involve digital skin vasoconstriction.
  • This vasoconstriction is significantly mediated by sympathoadrenergic alpha-receptors.
