Summary

Postprandial remnant lipoprotein cholesterol (C-RLPs) significantly impairs endothelial function, as measured by flow-mediated dilatation (FMD). Elevated C-RLPs after a fat load correlate with reduced FMD, indicating a link between dyslipidemia and vascular health.

Background:

  • Postprandial lipemia, a transient increase in blood lipids after a meal, can impact vascular health.
  • Remnant lipoproteins (RLPs), particularly cholesterol-rich RLPs (C-RLPs), are implicated in cardiovascular disease.
  • Endothelial dysfunction is an early marker of atherosclerosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between postprandial changes in RLP levels and endothelial function.
  • To determine if C-RLPs contribute to postprandial endothelial dysfunction.

Main Methods:

  • 15 moderately dyslipidemic men consumed an oral fat load (OFL).
  • Blood samples were collected at intervals (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 hours) to measure triglyceride and C-RLP levels.

    • These findings highlight the atherogenic potential of postprandial hyperlipidemia.
