Bipolar clavicular injuries, involving both ends of the clavicle, are rare. Conservative treatment for these complex injuries can lead to good outcomes and return to normal activities.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Traumatology
  • Sports Medicine

Background:

  • Clavicular injuries are common, but bipolar injuries involving both the acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints are rare.
  • These injuries can manifest as dislocations at both ends or a combination of fracture and dislocation.

Observation:

  • Two cases of bipolar clavicular injury are presented.
  • Case 1: Bipolar clavicular dislocation.
  • Case 2: Fractures of both medial and lateral clavicle ends with anterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation.

Findings:

  • Both patients were managed non-operatively (conservatively).
  • Conservative treatment resulted in a good range of motion.
  • Patients achieved a return to normal daily and potentially athletic activities.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • Conservative management may be a viable option for specific bipolar clavicular injuries.
  • This approach can lead to favorable functional recovery.
  • Highlights the importance of considering non-operative strategies for complex clavicular injuries.
