Summary

Patients with higher beta-endorphin levels may tolerate endoscopy with benzodiazepines alone. Lower levels suggest a need for stronger anesthetics like propofol to prevent adverse reactions during ERCP procedures.

Background:

  • To investigate the role of baseline beta-endorphin levels in pain perception during ERCP.
  • To determine optimal anesthetic strategies based on individual pain sensitivity.

  • 40 patients undergoing ERCP were divided into two groups based on pain scores (Visual Analog Scale 1-5 and 6-10).
  • Baseline beta-endorphin levels were measured and compared between the groups.
