Summary

Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) may benefit stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with severe hypercapnia by reducing respiratory muscle fatigue and improving sleep quality. Long-term mortality remains unchanged, but quality of life may improve.
