  • Poland registered 228,055 influenza and ILI cases in 2002, a 39.5% reduction from 2001. Mazowieckie voivodship had the highest incidence (2297.5/100,000). Children aged 0-14 represented 46% of cases (104,552).
  • Hospitalizations included 223 patients, 92 of whom were children. Ten influenza strains were isolated: 7 A(H3N2) and 3 A(H1N1). Immunofluorescence tests were negative in 57 specimens.
  • Sero-surveys indicated lower antihemagglutinin antibody levels in younger children (0-7 years) and higher levels in older children and young adults (8-25 years).
