Three-dimensional (3D) magnetization prepared rapid acquisition gradient echo (MP RAGE) is a sensitive tool for detecting multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques. This technique complements conventional T2-weighted spin echo (SE) sequences, offering improved visualization in specific brain regions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the sensitivity of 3D magnetization prepared rapid acquisition gradient echo (MP RAGE) with conventional T2-weighted spin echo (SE) for detecting multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques.
  • To evaluate the regional differences in plaque detection between the two MRI techniques.

  • Ten patients with clinical MS were scanned using both axial T2-weighted SE and coronal 3D MP RAGE sequences.

    • This technique offers advantages in visualizing lesions in specific anatomical locations.
    • Combining 3D MP RAGE with conventional T2-weighted SE may enhance MS lesion detection and characterization.
