Lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) is a rare vulvar complication after pelvic radiotherapy for cervical cancer. Conservative management was successful in two reported cases of this condition.

Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Dermatology
  • Radiation Oncology

Background:

  • Lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) is a rare benign vascular tumor.
  • Pelvic radiotherapy for cervical cancer is a known risk factor for developing LC of the vulva.
  • This condition presents a diagnostic and management challenge in gynecologic oncology.

Observation:

  • Two cases of vulvar lymphangioma circumscriptum are presented.
  • Both patients had previously undergone pelvic radiotherapy for carcinoma of the cervix.
  • The clinical presentation and progression of the lesions were observed.

Findings:

  • Vulvar lymphangioma circumscriptum developed as a complication following pelvic radiotherapy.
  • Conservative management strategies were employed for both patients.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The outcomes of conservative management were evaluated.
  • Implications:

    • This report highlights the importance of recognizing vulvar LC as a potential sequela of pelvic radiotherapy.
    • Conservative management may be a viable approach for selected cases of vulvar LC post-radiotherapy.
    • Further research is warranted to establish optimal treatment guidelines for this rare complication.
