[Retroperitoneal xanthogranuloma: a case report].

Summary

A rare retroperitoneal xanthogranuloma caused ureteral stricture and flank pain in a 51-year-old man. Surgical resection and ureteral reconstruction successfully treated the condition with no recurrence.

Background:

Retroperitoneal xanthogranulomas are rare benign tumors.
Ureteral strictures can lead to hydronephrosis and flank pain.

Observation:

A 51-year-old man presented with right flank pain and hydronephrosis.
Imaging revealed a paraureteric mass causing ureteral stricture.
Ureteroscopy showed no mucosal lesions.

Findings:

Histopathological diagnosis confirmed retroperitoneal xanthogranuloma.
The mass adhered to the right ureter, causing stricture.
Surgical resection and uretero-ureterostomy were performed.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of considering rare retroperitoneal masses in the differential diagnosis of ureteral strictures.

Further research into the etiology and optimal management of these rare tumors is warranted.
