Background:

Limited medical literature exists on early childhood masturbation.
Infantile self-stimulation is a rare condition, with only 12 cases previously documented.

Observation:

Five cases of infantile self-stimulation in girls under one year of age were observed over two years.
Diagnosis was challenging but aided by video recordings of the episodes.
The behavior is frequently misdiagnosed, leading to unnecessary investigations and treatments.

Findings:

Infantile self-stimulation is not uncommon and is often misdiagnosed.
Video recording is a valuable tool for accurate diagnosis.
Treatment primarily involves parental reassurance.
While often benign, it can be associated with behavioral issues.

Implications:

Infantile self-stimulation should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained episodes in infants.
Accurate diagnosis through video recording can prevent unnecessary medical interventions.
Further research is needed on the long-term clinical outcomes of childhood masturbation.
