The cost of care: an American experience
Abstract:
This article is based on a paper delivered by the author at the Royal College of Nursing Annual General Meeting in November 1991. It examines the socio-political costs of American health care and explores caring as a core dimension of nursing. It is proposed that caring in this context is a key determinant in the delivery of quality health care and an undervalued part of the nurse's repertoire of skills. Nurses are urged to develop their leadership potential and become part of the solution of the health care challenges of the 1990's.
