Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Oncology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Cardiac liposarcomas are rare primary heart tumors.
  • Tumor invasion can lead to significant cardiac dysfunction and complications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a case of cardiac liposarcoma with multiple functional complications.
  • To highlight the utility of 3D CT reconstruction in surgical planning for complex cardiac tumors.

Main Methods:

  • Multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) with 3D reconstruction was used for detailed cardiac imaging.
  • Surgical resection of identified tumor masses was performed.

Main Results:

  • 3D CT accurately depicted tumor invasion and associated cardiac complications.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Successful resection of a pulmonary artery mass and a mass compressing the superior vena cava and interatrial septum was achieved.
  • Pathological examination confirmed well-differentiated liposarcoma.
  • Conclusions:

    • Cardiac liposarcoma can present with diverse and severe functional complications.
    • Advanced imaging like 3D CT is crucial for understanding tumor extent and guiding surgical intervention.
    • Surgical resection can be effective in managing cardiac liposarcoma, improving patient outcomes.
