Background:
Multicentric clinical studies have a great impact on progress in diagnostics and therapy in oncology. However, multicentric retrospective clinical trials require a common documentation standard.
Methods:
A network enabled tumor documentation program based on a relational database system was developed for the management of multicentric clinical studies. This system is designed for the documentation of treatment and follow-up.
Conclusion:
The use of a computer-supported documentation system minimizes documentation effort and error frequency. However, communication with cancer registries is still an unsolved problem.
