Summary

Patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and dyspepsia show distinct gastric electrical activity patterns. These findings suggest differences in stomach function between GERD patients with and without dyspeptic symptoms.

Background:

  • Gastric myoelectrical activity may differentiate GERD patient subgroups.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if gastric myoelectrical characteristics can distinguish GERD patients with dyspeptic symptoms (GERD+) from those without.
  • To analyze electrogastrograms (EGGs) in GERD patients with and without dyspepsia.

Main Methods:

  • Recruited 20 GERD+ patients and 17 GERD patients.
  • Assessed gastric myoelectrical activity using electrogastrograms (EGGs).
  • Compared water ingestion volumes and EGG power distribution in different frequency ranges.

Main Results:

  • GERD+ patients ingested smaller water volumes (P < 0.05).
