Background:

  • Neurocysticercosis, a parasitic infection of the central nervous system by *Taenia solium* larvae, is a significant cause of neurological disorders.
  • Intramedullary spinal cord involvement is a rare but serious manifestation of neurocysticercosis, often presenting with progressive myelopathy.

Observation:

  • A 42-year-old male soldier with a history of cerebral neurocysticercosis presented with a six-month history of progressive weakness in both lower limbs.
  • Diagnostic imaging identified an intramedullary cyst in the cervicodorsal region of the spinal cord.

Findings:

  • Surgical excision of the intramedullary cysticercus cyst was successfully performed.
  • Post-operatively, the patient demonstrated notable improvement in his neurological deficits, including resolution of lower limb weakness.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering neurocysticercosis in the differential diagnosis of spinal cord lesions, even in patients with a known history of cerebral involvement.
