Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Gynecology

Background:

  • Female urethra diverticulum (FUD) is an underdiagnosed condition.
  • Suspect FUD in patients with chronic lower urinary tract symptoms.

Observation:

  • Reviewed five FUD cases over five years.
  • Presenting symptoms included anterior vaginal wall masses, stress urinary incontinence, and recurrent urinary tract infections.

Findings:

  • Diagnostic tools: urethroscopy, urethrography, transvaginal ultrasound, and pelvic MRI.
  • MRI was the sole diagnostic method in two cases.
  • All patients underwent surgical treatment, primarily transvaginal diverticulectomy.

Implications:

  • FUD requires higher clinical suspicion.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Multiple imaging modalities are available for diagnosis, with MRI being a key tool.
  • Transvaginal diverticulectomy is the preferred surgical approach for curative outcomes.
