Abstract:
The last 50 y has seen a dramatic increase in understanding of the behaviour of radionuclides in the body as well as of their effects. This has resulted in substantial improvements to the way that protection standards are set. This paper aims to chart the development of radiological protection as it applies to intakes of radionuclides by those who are occupationally exposed and by members of the public. It is not concerned with medical uses of radionuclides.
