Summary

Incisional abdominal hernias are a rare complication following Bernese periacetabular osteotomy. Surgeons should ensure abdominal fascia integrity, especially in at-risk patients.

Background:

Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (BPO) is a complex orthopedic procedure.
Potential complications of BPO require ongoing evaluation.

Observation:

A retrospective review of 950 BPO cases was conducted.
Two instances of incisional abdominal hernias were identified post-surgery.

Findings:

The incidence of incisional hernias after BPO is low but significant.
Risk factors include obesity, poor abdominal muscle tone, and increased intra-abdominal pressure.

Implications:

Restoring abdominal fascial continuity is crucial during BPO.
Awareness of hernia risk can guide surgical technique and patient selection.
