Summary

This study found no direct link between exhaled nitric oxide (NO) and lung function in heart failure patients. However, changes in exhaled NO during exercise correlated with peak oxygen consumption, possibly due to hemoglobin interactions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) and lung function at rest and during exercise in heart failure patients.

  • Studied 33 chronic heart failure patients and 11 healthy controls.
  • Assessed standard pulmonary function, lung diffusion for carbon monoxide (DLco), and exhaled NO (eNO) at rest and during exercise.
