Objective:
To evaluate the reliability of reverse transcriptional (RT)-PCR in detecting MN/CAIX gene expression in renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
Methods:
MN/CAIX gene expression was detected in 5 RCC tissues and 5 normal renal tissues. The primers of MN/CAIX gene were designed for a two-step RT-PCR, and the products examined by 2% agarose gel electrophoresis and identified by sequence analysis.
Result:
Corresponding bands of MN/CAIX gene could be seen in RT-PCR products of cases RCC tissue from 4 but not in normal renal tissues.
Conclusion:
RT-PCR is reliable for detecting the expression of MN/CAIX gene in RCC.
