Area of Science:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • Developmental Pediatrics

Background:

  • Choroid plexus papillomas are uncommon, benign tumors originating from neuroectodermal tissue.
  • These tumors typically manifest in the lateral ventricles of pediatric patients.
  • Presenting symptoms often relate to hydrocephalus and elevated intracranial pressure.

Observation:

  • A pediatric case presented with delayed developmental milestones.
  • Diagnostic evaluation revealed a choroid plexus papilloma accompanied by hydrocephalus.
  • The patient exhibited clinical signs indicative of increased intracranial pressure secondary to the tumor and hydrocephalus.

Findings:

  • Complete surgical excision of the choroid plexus papilloma was performed.
  • Post-operative monitoring indicated a gradual resolution of hydrocephalus.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The patient demonstrated progressive improvement in developmental milestones following tumor removal.
  • Implications:

    • Early diagnosis and surgical intervention are crucial for managing choroid plexus papillomas in children.
    • Complete tumor resection can lead to significant neurological recovery and improved developmental outcomes.
    • This case highlights the importance of considering rare tumors in the differential diagnosis of pediatric developmental delays.
