Summary

Patients with chronic cervical myelopathy (CCM) show impaired respiratory function, including reduced vital capacity and altered expiratory flow rates. This suggests underlying subclinical respiratory dysfunction associated with CCM.

  • To evaluate the respiratory function in patients diagnosed with chronic cervical myelopathy (CCM).

  • Spirometry was performed on 94 CCM patients before expansive laminoplasty.
  • CCM patients were compared to age- and sex-matched controls.
  • CCM patients were subgrouped by lesion level (above or below C3-4) for respiratory function comparison.

Main Results:

  • CCM patients exhibited significantly lower vital capacity compared to controls.
