Summary

Macrodystrophia lipomatosa, a rare congenital gigantism, presented as toe swelling and deformity. Surgical removal of lipomatous tissue provided symptom relief and lesion stability.

Background:

  • Macrodystrophia lipomatosa is a rare congenital condition characterized by localized gigantism.
  • It typically presents in childhood, but this case highlights adult onset with foot deformity.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old male presented with right toe swelling, deformity, and shoe-wearing difficulty.
  • Radiographic, ultrasonographic, and CT imaging revealed bone deviations, hypertrophy, medullary bone density changes, and a lipomatous mass infiltrating soft tissues.

Findings:

  • Microscopic examination confirmed the lipomatous mass contained normal fat, ligamentous, and neural tissues.
  • Surgical debulking of the lipomatous mass was performed.

Implications:

  • Partial lipoma removal successfully alleviated patient symptoms.
  • The lesion remained stable without recurrence or growth during a two-year follow-up, suggesting a benign and manageable course.
