Summary

Hepatitis A virus infection is rarely linked to kidney problems. This case report details a patient with Hepatitis A, nephrotic syndrome, IgA-dominant glomerulonephritis, and cutaneous cryoglobulinemic vasculitis.

Background:

  • Renal involvement is exceptionally rare in Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection, unlike Hepatitis B and C.
  • Nephrotic syndrome is a documented, albeit uncommon, complication of HAV infection.

Observation:

  • This report describes a patient with serologically confirmed HAV infection presenting with nephrotic syndrome.
  • Renal biopsy revealed IgA-dominant glomerulonephritis (GN) with subendothelial immune deposits.

Findings:

  • This is the second biopsy-proven case of acute HAV associated with IgA-dominant immune complex glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome.
  • This case may be the first to document concurrent IgA-dominant glomerulonephritis and cutaneous cryoglobulinemic vasculitis in a patient with acute HAV.
