Background:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) can cause symptomatic tracheobronchial stenosis, leading to significant respiratory compromise.
  • Management of such stenosis often requires advanced techniques to restore airway patency.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of interventional bronchoscopic techniques in managing tracheobronchial stenosis secondary to tuberculosis.
  • To assess the immediate and long-term symptomatic relief and airway diameter changes following these procedures.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 21 patients with symptomatic tracheobronchial stenosis due to TB underwent rigid bronchoscopy.
  • Interventional techniques included mechanical/balloon dilatation, Nd-YAG laser ablation, and Dumon stent placement under general anesthesia.

    • While initial relief is significant, repeated interventions may be required for sustained airway patency.
    • These endoscopic methods represent a valuable therapeutic option for this challenging condition.
