Obesity triggers a proinflammatory state in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (MNC), characterized by increased nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) activity and elevated inflammatory gene expression. This inflammation is linked to insulin resistance and modulated by free fatty acids (FFAs).
