Area of Science:

  • Medical Microbiology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Clinical Bacteriology

Background:

  • Hospitalization for dyspnea and edema.
  • Post-colonoscopy anal hemorrhage and fever indicate potential infection.

Observation:

  • Gram-negative rods identified via API20E as Pantoea sp.
  • 16S rRNA gene sequencing confirmed Pantoea ananatis.

Findings:

  • Pure culture of Pantoea ananatis isolated from blood cultures.
  • Bacteria showed susceptibility to all tested antibiotics.

Implications:

  • Pantoea ananatis can cause opportunistic infections in hospitalized patients.
  • Accurate identification and timely antibiotic therapy are crucial for patient recovery.
