Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Oral Pathology

Background:

  • Eruption sequestrum is a remnant of tooth eruption.
  • Its clinical significance has been underestimated.

Observation:

  • A case of bilateral eruption sequestra is reported.
  • These sequestra were associated with erupting teeth.

Findings:

  • Eruption sequestra can retain plaque.
  • This retained plaque may cause pericoronitis or caries.
  • Some eruption sequestra require surgical intervention.

Implications:

  • Eruption sequestra should be considered in the differential diagnosis of erupting tooth pain.
  • Early recognition and management can prevent complications.
  • Surgical removal is a viable option for persistent eruption sequestra.
