Summary

Background:

  • Diagnosis was confirmed via MRI, though one case was delayed due to complex neurological symptoms.

Findings:

  • Lumbar spine surgery involving decompression and cyst resection was successful in all three patients.
  • Surgical outcomes were positive, resolving symptoms despite significant pre-operative neurological deficits in two patients.

Implications:

  • Facet joint cysts in older adults may coexist with other degenerative neurological conditions.
  • Consider facet joint cysts in elderly patients with mixed central and peripheral neurological compromise.
  • Comprehensive spinal imaging is crucial for accurate diagnosis in complex cases.
