Summary

Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNETs) in children often cause difficult seizures. Surgical removal of temporal lobe DNETs can effectively resolve these intractable partial complex seizures.

Background:

  • Key diagnostic features of DNETs include multinodular/multicystic appearance, mixed neuronal-glial components with minimal atypia, associated cortical dysplasia, and absence of arcuate vascular pattern.
  • Differential diagnosis includes oligodendrogliomas, mixed gliomas, and gangliogliomas.

  • Early recognition and accurate diagnosis of DNETs are crucial for effective treatment.
  • Surgical resection offers a curative option for DNETs.
