Background:

  • Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic bladder condition with unknown causes, often leading to Hunner's ulcers.
  • The disease primarily affects middle-aged women and is suspected to have autoimmune origins.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) molecules in bladder biopsies from IC patients.
  • To compare HLA expression in IC with bacterial cystitis and healthy controls to understand disease mechanisms.
