This case report details a patient with bilateral conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) caused by human papillomavirus. Adjunctive interferon alpha-2b treatment in one eye reduced recurrence, suggesting its potential benefit for extensive CIN lesions.

Background:

  • Conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is a premalignant ocular surface lesion.
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) is implicated in the etiology of some CIN cases.

Observation:

  • A 73-year-old male presented with bilateral CIN, confirmed positive for HPV-16 and -18.
  • Subtotal and total excisional biopsies were performed on the right and left eyes, respectively.
  • The right eye received adjunctive interferon alpha-2b injections, leading to lesion resolution without recurrence.

Findings:

  • Histopathology confirmed bilateral CIN with HPV-16/18 detection.
  • The left eye experienced recurrence of CIN after surgical excision alone.
